Pacha Thakkali - Muringakka (Green tomato - Drumstick ) aviyal

Ingredients
  • Green tomato - 10/12 No:s
  • Drumstick - 3 No:s
  • Coconut  - 1cup(grated)
  • Chilly powder - 1 tablespoon
  • Turmeric powder - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Curry leaves  1 strand
  • Cumin seeds - 1/2 teaspoon
  • Green chilly - 3 No:s(medium sized)
  • Mustard seeds
 
Preparation

Grind the grated coconut,chilly powder,tumeric powder,cumin seeds and 1 green chilly. Take a bottom heavy pan.Add the coconut paste ,curry leaves, the cut tomatoes and drumstick.Add 1 - 1 1/2 cups of water.Add salt to taste.Cook well.
Goes well with rice.

Rava Kesari

Ingredients  
  • Rava  - 1 cup
  • Sugar - 1 1/2 cups
  • Ghee  - 4 tablespoons
  • Raisins & Cashewnuts
  • Elachi - 1 or 2
  • Water -  3 cups  

Preparation

Heat a bottom heavy pan. Add 1 tablespoon ghee and fry the raisins and cashewnuts.Keep it aside. Take another pan. Fry the rava in it with 1 tablespoon ghee. Fry till the rava turns to a light pink color. Keep it aside. Boil 3 cups of water and the fried rava to it.Add rava slowly and stir constantly while adding the rava. Cook it well. When the rava is well cooked, add 1 1/2 cups of sugar and stir well.Add raisins,cashewnuts and elachi. Add 1 1/2 tablespoons of ghee.Stir well till the rava starts leaving the pan. Remove the pan from fire. Move the kesari to a serving dish.Serve either hot or cold

If you want you can add kesari powder for color, before adding the sugar.(Optional)

Cheerathandu – Vellarikka Theeyal


Ingredients :

  1. Cheerathandu  -  12 No.s
  2. Vellarikka – sliced 1 cup
  3. Green chily – 3 No.s
  4. Pearl onion – 6-7 No.s
  5. Coconut – grated (1/2  a coconut)
  6. Chilly powder – 1 tspn
  7. Turmeric powder – ½ tspn
  8. Coriander powder
  9. Tamarind  -  size of a Gooseberr y(adjust the qty as per your taste)
  10. Coconut oil – 1 tbspn
  11. Mustard seeds
  12. Curry leaves
  13. Salt

Preparation

Take a botton heay pan.Add cheerathandu(sliced),cucumber and 1 green chilly.Add a cup of water and cook well. Take another pan, add grated coconut ,2-3 Pearl onion .Fry  it in low flame until it becomes golden brown color.Add chily powder, coriander powder,turmeric powder and remove from fire. Grind the coconut into a smooth paste adding a little water.Take a pan.Add cococnut oil,whole red chilly and splutter mustard seeds.Add curry leaves, pearl onions and green chillies.Fry the onions till it becomes golden brown in color.Add the onion, tamarind pulp and the coconut paste to the vegetables.Add salt to taste.Cook till the raw taste leaves.Serve hot.
